Dear Austin Children’s Choir Family,
I am so excited to start another great season with The Austin Children’s Choir in August!
This will be my ninth season as the Artistic Director for the chorus and we are preparing for a
very beautiful season of making music with you for our community. This year, our theme is all
about the elements that make us who we are and bring us together as part of the greater world
around us. This year, we are already scheduled to perform for the Texas Music Administrators
Conference in November, along with our annual Fall and Spring concerts. We continue to find
new and exciting performance opportunities for the rest of the year and we know that the greater
Austin community and beyond will see the hard work and dedication of our singers all year long.
On a personal note, this will be a very special season for me as I will celebrate nine
amazing years with this organization before I move into a different type of role. In nearly a
decade, I have had the privilege of working with hundreds of singers performing over 150 pieces
of music and each person and song holds a very special place with me. I reflect on my very first
concert, telling the stories of different cultures through winter pieces with eight singers and I am
in awe of how many amazing performances we have had as a choir since 2014. We have
commissioned and premiered four works, performed three major works, performed for a dozen
festivals, sang with rock and roll artists, supported multiple non-profit organizations,
collaborated with a dozen different musical groups around central Texas, traveled to Washington
DC, created virtual and hybrid performances, made life-long friendships, and continued to raise
our performance ability every single concert. I am humbled to have spent the past eight years
with this organization and will continue to make my ninth season the most amazing yet. I owe
each and every one of you a deep and heartfelt thank you for making these years meaningful and
beautiful.
As we prepare for this year, please continue to share your experience of your time with
the choir with your friends and neighbors and let’s make this the best year we’ve had together! I
cannot wait to see everyone again and to lift our voices together in one of the most profound
elements on earth; music.
